3 Copywriting Tips For Beginners

February 6th, 2008 · No Comments

Internet marketing is not a new business. The internet is not a new business model. This is what many failed dot coms never realized. The internet is nothing more than another direct response advertising medium.

What works offline works online with respect to selling your products. And that means writing powerful and effective copy.

So, if you’re selling with words, you better know how to write effective copy and profit pulling ads or you’ll go out of business.

Here are three copywriting tips for beginners that you can use for writing profit pulling ads that generate more traffic, leads, subscribers and customers.

1) Focus on Your Prospect, Not on You - Your prospect doesn’t care about you. I know, that hurts, but it’s true. They want to know what you can do for them, the classic, ‘What’s In It For Me’ or WIIFM.

So when you write your classified ads, forget about you, write about what you can do for your prospect.

When writing effective copy, think about writing to an old friend that you feel would benefit from what you have to offer. What would you say to this person? How do you focus on them and not on you? Glad you asked!

2) Emphasize the Benefits, Not the Features - By emphasizing the benefits of your product or service, you are naturally focusing on what’s in it for your prospect.

They don’t really care that your car gets 40 miles to the gallon (a feature). They DO care that they will save a lot of money on gas!

That’s a benefit! See how the first one focuses on you and your product and the second focuses on what your prospect will get out of your product?

Big difference! Focus on benefits, not features!

3) Force Them to Respond Emotionally! This may sound manipulative, but if you truly believe that your product or service will benefit them, it’s not.

And most people don’t buy with logic, they buy on emotion. They buy on emotion and justify their purchase with logic.

In order to push their emotional buttons, you need to know who your prospect, your target market, is and what they want. You have to have a profile of your best customer.

That is who you are talking to about your product or service.

Yes, certain words push emotional buttons. But in order to write effective ad copy, you have to back up those words will believability and credibility.

And to do that, you have to know your product or service and you have to know your potential customer. And this takes research.

Do the research first, then implement these effective copywriting tips for beginners, and you’ll find yourself with profit pulling copy.
