Internet Video and your business – part 2

February 27th, 2008 · No Comments

So in my first post I talked about how important using internet video was to your site, to your business. Now I want to talk a little about how you do it and what to use for tools.

Let’s make this clear, this is not the be all and end all tutorial on this subject. In fact to get that version you would need to be a member of our membership site. Of course that is a good option but I want t at least give you the basics so you can decide if you want to learn more and begin to implement internet video to your business.

OK so step one. Simple stuff here. Think of something nice and basic about your business, web site, or product. No really, take any one element and give two minutes thought about how you would explain it to a customer. Just a simple slice of it. If you have a content site then think about how you could do a tour of some of the content and describe it to your audience. If you have a product then think of how you could show off one feature of it.

This is your first video. Start simple. No Hollywood productions here, we just want to get the ball rolling so to speak.

Now let’s make sure you have the tools. Get yourself a screen capture tool, either a free tool like CamStudio or a paid tool like Camtasia. These software tools will allow you to record what is on your screen on your computer and turn it into web video in a few easy steps. If you want audio in your video then make sure you have a microphone or mic/headset to plug into your computer. I use a mic/headset made by Logitech that plugs into a USB port and works great.

So now you need to either bring up your product on your computer screen or browse to your web site in your favorite browser (should be Firefox if you want my opinion) and get everything in order as far as what you want to show and what you want to say. Now remember nothing fancy here. Just do it. Keep it simple and short.

Fire up your screen capture software, tell it what area of the screen or which window to record, test and adjust your audio settings (if you are using Camtasia this is easy as they walk you through it in a very easy fashion) and then hit record.

Now don’t freeze up dude!

Just relax and introduce yourself, and then quickly get onto giving a tour, showing your audience what you want them to know about your product. Then sign off by thanking them for watching.

Now save the video to your HD, and open up the editing timeline. Import the video to the timeline and give it a listen to make sure it is alright. Now in Camtasia you can create title screens very easily. Do that now. Create a title screen that contains your URL and add it to the video. At the end works, we just want to make sure that if you post this to variety of video sharing sites that when someone watches it they will know where to go for more.

OK enough for now. The next post will go over what to do next and where to post your video online for free.

Remember just do it. Internet video will help your business and product sales.
