The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Automated Site Builders

August 30th, 2007 · No Comments

The pitches come and go every few months and they all sound incredibly appealing.

You buy “XYZ” software from Mr. Guru Moneybags. You install it and turn on the “special” secret process.

BAM! Instant website or Blog!

All these types of products work alike - instantly creating your new web site, or blog. They scrounge the Internet for news feeds, articles and Clickbank products. They even promise instant wealth from the “optimized” Adsense templates - just stick in your java script code. Once they start churning out the pages they become the PERFECT bait for Google/Yahoo and MSN.

Just turn the software on and let it pop out hundreds of these sites and you’ll be the next King Midas. No fuss, no muss 5 minutes work and retire to Fiji - or some other exotic beach.

Then after a few weeks, months at best, BOOM - your new empire just blew up in your face! Your beautiful sites vanish from the search engines, your income goes to zero overnight and your broke again.

That’s Ok - you secretly knew it was going to happen - you just didn’t think it would happen so quickly. Well off you go again to find the next “secret weapon” and repeat the whole process one more time. Maybe this time it will continue to work for more than a few days, weeks or a month?

The truth of the manner is, to date, all of the automated site and page generators I’ve seen have gotten killed by Google. I know people supposedly do make money with those sites and their pitches ARE irresistible.

I also have found that, in a few cases, by the time the “latest super” product got on the market Google had already changed their algorithms to stop those sites from getting listed in the first place.

The BIG problem is that this creates massive amounts of work to stay ahead of Google. Whsn’t the whole reason you used this method in the first palce is because you were looking for “LESS” work?

Those products do NOT create EVERGREEN sites. An Evergreen site is one that lasts and continues to grow income and traffic for the owner.

However, if you insist on spinning your wheels you’re welcome to try.

In theory the idea is great and I, must admit, I love it. Who wouldn’t?

Creating automated income streams from virtually thin air - no fuss, no muss! I have heard of a few (keyword “FEW”) who have actually made huge sums of income (more than a few hundred thousand) with those systems. I also know, by their own admissions, the money did NOT last? Google DID have the last laugh - as they always do!

You see you can go gray hat, you can go black hat, you can pretty mush do whatever you please. People can and do make “short term” money in this fashion.

However you must remember the cardinal rules of SEO:

Rule number One: You cannot fool the all mighty Google.

Rule Two: Don’t make the all mighty Google mad. They are the all seeing, all powerful wizard where anything to do with the Internet is concerned. They not only hold ALL the marbles but they make all the rules! If you try to trick them or fool them they will just ban your sites for all eternity.

This is SEO law.

That is the primary reason the White Hat Guys teach only White Hat methods to producing Evergreen sites using Evergreen marketing methods - they will last as proven year in and year out.
